Stories of Impact

Avenue of Life is working to end student homelessness in Kansas City through a Collective Impact Initiative called Impact KCK. With a 94% housing success rate and over 90 collaborating partners, our Impact KCK program provides support to students and families for the long-haul to ensure their safety, health, and wellness.

Today, we want to share our Stories of Impact. Read below to learn how your financial support can transform lives and end student homelessness in Kansas City.

Kyra's Story

Kyra is a single mother who was working nearly 70 hours to make ends meet for her family. Obstacles kept being thrown her way, and her family was evicted from their home right before the holidays.

She reached out to Avenue of Life for additional support. Her navigator helped Kyra find housing for her family, providing a safe place for her children to be taken care of while she was working. It takes a lot of courage to ask for support, and we're grateful to be a part of Kyra's journey. Click on the button below to hear Kyra share her story.

Sheila's Story

Sheila is a single mother in Wyandotte County. After being diagnosed with cancer, medical expenses piled up and caused her to fall behind on her mortgage.

Sheila was referred to Avenue of Life for additional support during this very difficult season. Sheila’s navigator at Avenue of Life helped her get caught up on mortgage payments and made sure the family was provided with food and hygiene items. This allowed Sheila to focus on fighting cancer and caring for her family. Financial support from people like you ensures that we can continue to care well for families like Sheila's in Kansas City.

Tom's Story

Tom has children enrolled in one of our partner school districts. After his wife unexpectedly left their family, Tom was struggling to maintain employment due to his work schedule and then was facing eviction. Our partner school district referred him and his family to Avenue of Life.

Tom’s navigator at Avenue of Life helped connect him with several partner organizations through our Impact KCK program. These organizations broke down barriers to help Tom find therapeutic services for his children as well as an after-school program for childcare so that he could maintain his employment. Tom’s navigator also assisted with rental payments to give him a fresh start financially.

Through Impact KCK, Tom and his family were able to get back on their feet. Fresh starts and new beginnings happen through financial support from people just like you.
